Join SCSCB in welcoming Dr. Yiwei Wang, director of the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) for our second Santa Cruz Conserves seminar! Yiwei is a former banana slug (PhD 2014) and went on to prestigious postdoctoral appointments in conservation with DataOne and Save The Elephants. She will tell us about SFBBO’s conservation actions in the bay area, and ways for SCSCB members to get involved! As always, the event is free, and open to the public. Come early or stay late to check out the Norris Center too!

About Yiwei’s talk:
“In 1981, two San Jose State University Professors and their students founded the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) in an effort to protect and better understand local birds, Since then, SFBBO has evolved into a well respected research organization dedicated to conserving birds and their habitats through science and outreach. Yiwei will discuss some of their long term projects, such as their Colonial Waterbirds monitoring program and Bird Banding station, as well as some of their new habitat restoration and outreach programs. Her hope is to build stronger collaborative ties between the Santa Cruz SCB community and SFBBO to discover new ways to use their existing data and leverage their resources and connections to advance bird conservation.”

Following the talk we will have a member’s meeting (1:30pm), so be prepared to share your input on SCSCB’s goals and plans in 2016!
